This single,"Block Optic" pattern sugar bowl with pointed handles was manufactured in the 1930's by Anchor Hocking. It is one half of a set that also includes a creamer. I do not offer the creamer for sale. The lovely green displayed in this item is due to the addition of small amounts of uranium oxide during its manufacture, which causes the glass to exhibit a bright, green glow when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) black light. The use of uranium in glass manufacturing dates back to the ancient Romans, but became most popular during the 1800's to the 1930's. This is a great piece to get you started in UV glass collecting. It's also the perfect replacement item for that hole in an established collection. All items are sold as is.
